ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

My work is based around my experience of walking. I walk often, in all kinds of weather and in all kinds of places. As a result of this activity and my own internal processing, I have developed a method of injecting the pulsations of the walking movement into my paintings.

I paint to evoke the passage of time, the movement of light, the joys and insights of the shifting relationships of the spaces through which I am passing. My earliest studies of the world around me have been quite literally landscapes, but as I have expanded my conceptual search, I find that I can inject the same process and implications into a wide range of subject matter.

I paint in oils on canvas in my studio. I also work outside directly from nature in oil stick on 140 lb. watercolor paper. In addition to working in the endless variety of the Maine landscape, I have had the opportunity to document landscapes in New Mexico and Ireland by attending unique artist residencies.

Walking has had such an impact on my life that I have gone to the ultimate form of spiritual path following, the labyrinth, and built a 1/2 mile long installation in my hay field to share my experiences with the public. (See Creating a Labyrinth: an Artist's Path.)
