A native of Philadelphia, Phyllis lived in New York City for many years, attending Hunter College (BFA) and Pratt Institute (MFA).

A fellow of Pratt and the New York Foundation for the Arts, she mainly exhibited sculpture in Maine, New York City and state, California, New Jersey, Connecticut and Chicago. This sculpture may be seen in her barn gallery, open June through October, by appointment only. Her current focus is on painted wood wall reliefs..
